Tankless water heaters can be a great energy and water saving appliance in your Roseville home.
Every home and home owner has different needs. Things that need to be taken into consideration are the following …..
- How many people live in the home?
- What is your hot water consumption or demand per day?
- How many showers a day ?
- How many loads of laundry ?
- Do you have a large soaking tub ?
- How much is the total consumption per month ?
- If you have a tank type water heater , things to think about before having a tankless water heater retrofitted for your home are:
- Do you run out of hot water when you are taking a shower or washing dishes ?
- Does it take along time for the water to heat up again ?
- How much is it costing you a month to run your water heater per month ?( this can only be an estimate , unless the water heater is the only thing you have that’s gas in your home, which isn’t very often )
- How old is your water heater ? ( most water heaters are lasting on the averaging about 10 years )
- With a tank type water heater you’re heating water at different times of the day and night that you aren’t using.
- How long are you going to stay in your home ?
- If you aren’t going to be in your home for more than 5-7 years , I don’t believe they will pay for themselves. ( depending on your demand ) A tankless water heater is said to last around 20 years, this depends on your water type, and if your tankless is serviced yearly. ( I recommend installing a conditioning water filter just before the unit or installing a whole house filter )
- If you have to replace your old tank type water heater, and are planning on only being in your home for a short time, a tank type maybe the best for your needs.
- Tankless water heaters can cost 3 to 5 times the cost of a standard tank type water heater. When installing a tankless there are a few things that come into play.
- What is your gas piping size ? Standard water heaters have a 1/2 inch gas supply, which is to0 small for most all tankless gas requirement . So a new 3/4 inch gas line will have to be run to the location of the water heater.
- How far and where is the new flue piping going? You can’t use the old flue piping. Most all tankless have a special flue requirement, which has to be meet or it can void all warranties .
- Do you want an indoor or outdoor unit ? With an outdoor unit you have no flue pipe to run, but you will have to move the water piping to the new location.
- Also you need to have a 110 electrical outlet, to run the remote control thermostats for the desired temp. Also for the venting fan.
If it take you along time to get hot water to your faucet or shower, a tankless is not going to solve your problem. The only way too solve this problem is to put in a ( hot water recirculating system.) Receiving hot water will take about the same amount of time with a tankless water heater. ( thing is with the tankless you won’t run out of hot water)
Newer tank type water heaters are more energy-efficient than they were 10 or 12 years ago, most models are energy star rated now. ( make sure and ask if you are having one installed , some utilities are giving rebates. )
If you decide to go with a tankless water heater. You can receive a federal tax credit of up too $1500. Tankless water heaters are part of going green
If you are having a tankless water heater installed make sure that it is sized properly for your needs. Different brands make different sizes, from small demand too multiple units for larger demands.
Every application for installing a tankless water heater is different.
